The Clinical Experience of Cefmetazole in Surgical Infections



Abstract
CMZ is a newly developed Cephamycin antibiotics which has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity against Gram positive, Gram negative, anaerobic bacteria. CMZ was administered to 50 patients with both proven of suspected microbial infection and highly suggested postoperative infection from Feb: 12th. 1991 to Sep. 12th 1991.
Most parts took about 6 gram doses of . CMZ per day for at least 3 days. And all diseases were surgically corrected for cure of itself pathology. Overall clinical response rate was 76%. The bacteriologic response rate was 65.4%.
Adverse reaction occurred in one case with pruritus and skin rash. but it disappeared after discontinuation of CMZ
And prothrombin time increased in two cases. and elevation of SGOT/SGPT was detected in 12 cases. which may not be clinically related to CIM.
CMZ is effective for the treatment of surgical infection and the prevention of postoperative inflammatory complication.
